Gone are the days when Bollywood films were only about dancing behind the fauna. Now we have films out of the box, as new-age directors are bringing about the change we have been looking for.
Here are 16 film directors who did change the face of Bollywood:
1. Shoojit Sircar
He had recently directed Piku that crossed the 100-crore mark. And we cannot stop talking about it. Previously, he’d made super films like Vicky Donor and Madras Cafe. Not many of us know that his first film was Yahaan (2007) staring Minisha Lamba and Jimmy Shergill. Sircar has always managed to maintain a balance between the critics and the audience. Fortunately, Vicky Donor also bagged a national award.
2. Dibaker Banerjee
Banerjee gave us an opportunity that we can never get bored of watching, a film about Delhi and based in Delhi – Khosla KaGhosla. Nobody could think that such simplicity could go on to become a classic. After that, Banerjee experimented with several films, like Love Sex Dhokha, Oye Lucky Oye and Shanghai.
3. Zoya Akhtar
She’s the director of the most loved film of the year Dil Dhadkane Do.
4. Vikramaditya Motwane
Motwane’s first film Udaan is considered one of the most inspiring films in the last decade.
5. Anurag Kashyap
He’s probably the most cherished film director of India.
6. Ayan Mukerji
He was only 26 when he directed Wake Up Sid, a film with the most realistic trouble of our generation.
7. Tigmanshu Dhulia
Dhulia is one of our absolute favorites. He’s one man who can kill in both, ways by acting and directing like a boss.
8. Shakun Batra
He’s the man behind the film Ek Main AurEkTu which is most known for casting a unique and unusual pair – Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead.
9. Reema Kagti
She’s yet another female director who is making us proud with her accomplishments.
10. Imtiaz Ali
This man has the talent to merge commercial and critical success and perform magic.
11. Neeraj Pandey
He’s made three films up to now and all three of them have been completely paisa vasool.
12. Bejoy Nambiar
He’s the man behind the film Shaitan which gave everyone the stings of terror.
13. Shonali Bose
She’s the writer, director, and producer of the Margarita with a Straw.
14. Neeraj Ghaywan
Everyone in India talked about Masaan prior its release. It is the first film to receive two awards at the Cannes Film Festival.
15. Rajat Kapoor
Sadly, but as a fact we only remember him as the pervert uncle from Monsoon Wedding.
16. Sharat Katariya
Katariya has been in the industry for a while, but only got noticed after his film Dum Laga Ke Haisha came out in 2015.
