Vidya Balan Will Play Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi Onscreen

Sagarika Ghose’s rough-and-tumble biography of former Indian and only Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Indira – India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister is set to be adapted in a film. The noted journalist and author took to Twitter to make an official announcement about signing a contract with Vidya Balan.
 
A National Award winner, acclaimed actress Vidya Balan who will play former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi onscreen said in a statement that she was happy to have acquired the book rights because she has always wanted to play Indira Gandhi, she said, “I haven’t decided yet whether it should be a film or a web series, but that will take a while anyway,”


Ghose’s book, Indira – India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister explores issues as the reasons behind the Emergency in 1975, Indira Gandhi’s failed marriage, her turbulent relationship with her son Sanjay, and her numerous political battles.
 
Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister was pitched by the publishers to the film and screen community at the Word to Screen Market 2017, organised by the Jio MAMI Mumbai Film Festival.

The eminent journalist also called Vidya an “ace”, which is true!
